About the Company  LineGuard was founded by Ernest H. (Ernie) Roberts. Ernie started with one simple objective. He wanted to keep crawling insects from reaching their targets without using repeated insecticide baits or sprays. Ernie found a highly effective solution, which turned into the AntGuard concept. "The technology Ernie discovered excites everyone who tries it -- from research entomologists to homeowners. It is highly effective, has low environmental impact, is simple to use, and has a tremendous number of commercial applications" said Dr. Philip Koehler, Professor of Urban and Medical Entomology at the University of Florida. "In fact, it works so well that we use it in our laboratories. It is so safe to non-target organisms that we even use it in our insectaries." Perky Pet Corporation started distributing LineGuard's first commercial product, AntGuard for Hummingbird Feeders in 1997. The product is the first zero-maintenance way for people to keep ants out of hummingbird feeders for a full season. Research & development beginning in 1986 resulted in a significant number of patents and EPA registrations on this novel barrier approach to pest management. The University of Florida Office of Licensing Technology, most famous for Gatorade, is LineGuard's partner for technology transfer. LineGuard's AntGuard products have been extensively researched and tested at major universities including the University of Florida at Gainesville, the University of California at Davis and the University of California at Riverside. In addition, scientists in Chile and Argentina tested the technology in vineyards and found it effective against hard-to-control tropical and ants including leafcutter ants. Dr. Richard Patterson, a retired USDA - ARS scientist coordinated the research efforts.
